The Cambodia e-visa for tourists and business travellers

The visa for Cambodia that is available online is also known as the e-visa, which is short for ‘electronic visa’. Applying for this visa is relatively easy, since the entire application procedure can be completed online. Applicants have to fill in a digital form and to upload a passport photo and a copy of their passport. The visa is issued in 7 days on average per e-mail. Urgent applications are processed in 4 days on average.

The e-visa is meant for tourist or business travel to Cambodia. This includes recreational and cultural activities, as well as different types of sports. You may also visit friends and family in Cambodia. Business travel includes meetings with business partners, company visits, technical meetings and business projects.

Passport requirements

Travellers from most countries are eligible to apply for the Cambodia visa online. A passport is always required. You may use a regular passport or an emergency passport. However, you may not use an ID-card or any other type of document. The passport should be valid for at least 6 more months at the time of your arrival to Cambodia. Are you planning to extend your visa in Cambodia? In that case, your passport has to be valid for at least 6 months at the time the extension would be issued.

Allowed entry locations on an e-visa

You may use the Cambodia e-visa only if you enter the country at one of the permitted entry locations. You may arrive at one of the country’s big international airports or at certain land border crossings. The allowed entry locations are listed in the table below. The e-visa is not valid for an entry by cruise ship or private boat. In that case, you should apply for a visa at the Cambodian embassy or consulate.

Entry location Type
Phnom Penh International airport
Siem Reap International airport
Sihanoukville (Preah Sihanouk) International airport (arrival via the seaport is not permitted!)
Bavet (Svay Rieng) Border location near Vietnam
Tropaeng Kreal (Stung Treng) Border location near Laos

Due to political tensions between Cambodia and Thailand, the Cham Yeam and Poi Pet border posts are temporarily closed.

Length of your stay on the visa

Your Cambodia visa is valid for 90 days, starting from the day it is issued. The exact validity term is noted on the visa. Keep in mind that you are not allowed to stay in Cambodia for more than 30 days, starting from the day of your arrival to Cambodia. You can find more information about this, as well as the possibility to extend your visa on the page about the validity term.

Departing from Cambodia

Your passport is stamped upon arrival to Cambodia, indicating how long you are allowed to stay in the country. The permitted length of stay is usually 30 days, unless otherwise specified. If you stay in the country for a longer time, you will have to pay a fine and you might have to deal with consequences for possible future trips to Cambodia. You may depart from Cambodia through any location that has a border control post, meaning that it is not necessary to depart from one of the above-mentioned entry locations.

Required travel documents upon arrival

Upon arrival in Cambodia, you have to present the following travel documents:

  • Your passport (valid for at least 6 months)
  • Your visa (printed twice in colour or greyscale)
  • A filled-in e-Arrival Card

Also, you should keep in mind that the visa is only meant for tourist and business travel and that you have to arrive in the country at one of the permitted entry locations. These are listed above. Additionally, you are advised to read the page about the validity term and visa extension carefully.
